But none of these compare to the true holiday highlight of the pharmacy: Secret Santa.
Secret Santa in pharmacy isn’t just a gift exchange. It’s a sociology experiment with a sprinkle of glitter and a dash of workplace gossip.

But the actual gift range ends up being $6 worth of clearance chocolate, a candle so fancy it feels like a tax write-off, a shockingly thoughtful mug-and-goodies set arranged like a Pinterest board, and one person who brings something that is absolutely re-gifted. The real magic is that everyone nods politely like we all followed the same instructions.

You could use wrapping paper. Common wrapping materials include: Rx bag (festive!), box flap from a recent medication shipment, printer paper that was supposed to be a flu shot form, and packing tape applied with the precision of a toddler in oven mitts. It has character. It will not open without scissors.

There are two types of Secret Santa reveals in pharmacy: the polite formal version and the chaotic “just open everything at once while patients are calling” version. Either way, at least one person’s gift will spark a conversation that begins with “Wow… how did you know?”

You knew. Was it the handwriting? The oddly specific gift? Denise giving the same candle every year? Doesn’t matter. We all participate in the annual tradition of pretending to be shocked. (“Oh my gosh, it was YOU? No way!” — Way.)
